Carson City NV - Richard Menzies, 78, joined our father in heaven on Monday, March 4, 2013 after a long battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Charlene; his daughter, Merri Jo; his son, Loren; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and countless beloved family and friends.
Born in Palo Alto, CA, Rick was raised in Nevada, graduating from Carson High School in 1954. He retired from the Carson City Fire Department as the Assistant Fire Marshall after 27 years of dedicated service. As recent as the summer of 2012, he worked with the BLM.
As an active member of the community, Menzies supported Special Olympics, was a Mason and Shriner, and an active member of his home of worship, the First United Methodist Church. He was involved in Christian Ministries and most recently as a member of the "Nevada State Prison Preservation Society".
Rick will be remembered for his workshop projects, raking pine needles at his haven at Eagle Lake, for his favorite lemon drop candies, flannel shirts, his ever-handy notebook and for his absolute commitment to his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church In Carson City, NV at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the First United Methodist Church of Carson City or Carson City Special Olympics. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is trusted with arrangements.
