CARSON CITY, Nev. — District attorneys who are appointed to fill a vacancy would have to stand for election sooner under a bill introduced in the Nevada Assembly.

Currently, if the position of district attorney is vacant, the county commission appoints someone to serve out the unexpired four-year term.

AB249 sponsored by Democratic Assemblyman Harvey Munford of Las Vegas would require that anyone appointed as district attorney run in the next general election if the vacancy occurs at least 30 days before candidate filing ends.
