Legendary rockers War will headline this summer’s Concert Under the Stars taking place Tuesday, July 9, behind Café at Adele’s.
In a career that has spanned more than four decades War has sold more than 50 million albums. The band’s unique mix of funk, jazz, R&B and rock ’n’ roll has produced numerous top 10 singles including “Low Rider,” “Cisco Kid,” “Why Can’t We be Friends” and many more.
“This is the biggest act we have been able to book for the concert,” said Karen Abowd, Greenhouse Project president and founder. “It’s because so many people from around the area support the Greenhouse Project that we are able to bring a band of this magnitude to Carson City.”
Proceeds from the concert benefit Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. The community-based greenhouse is on the Carson High School Campus. With a focus on environmental stewardship, it provides educational and vocational opportunities for students, youth groups, and special needs individuals. It also provides year-round organic produce to agencies serving low income Carson City residents and the flowers used in the Downtown Carson City Flower Basket Program.
Last year’s concert raised more than $35,000 for the project.
“We think this year will be even better than last, we’ve got a great band, and people know they are going to have a fabulous time,” Abowd said.
Local favorite, Notch 8, will open the show. The evening also features a live and silent auction, plus a raffle.
The gates open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $40 general admission, $60 for premier seating and can be purchased at www.carsoncitygreenhouse.org or by calling 1-866-967-8167. A limited number of veranda seats are available for $100 and corporate chalets also are available and can only be purchased at Café at Adele’s, 1112 N. Carson St.
