Dayton Intermediate School was on lockdown for 45 minutes Thursday as the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Central Lyon County Fire Department, the State of Nevada Fire Marshall’s Office and the United States Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms investigated suspicious materials located at the school.
The materials were determined to be muriatic acid, which was to be mixed with aluminum foil to create a “works” bomb.
When mixed, the result is a binary non-flammable explosion.
Three students were questioned and admitted to possession of the substances but maintained that they were not going to create the reaction on school grounds.
At the conclusion of the search, the lockdown was lifted and a monitored release of the students was conducted.
The investigation is still ongoing.
