RENO, Nev. — A 55-year-old Las Vegas man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for defrauding a Lake Tahoe-area investor out of nearly $3 million
U.S. District Judge Garland Burrell Jr. sentenced Jed Baron on Friday to five years and three months for wire fraud related to an investment scheme.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner says Baron made a series of false business proposals to the South Lake Tahoe investor as part of a plan to sell Irish seafood to Las Vegas restaurants.
He says Baron forged a series of documents to persuade the victim the investment was legitimate, but then diverted the funds for his own use to pay off previous investors. He also persuaded the victim to invest in other false ventures, including motion pictures and luxury automobiles.
