Editor’s note: The name of the sergeant allegedly involved was corrected from Wednesday’s print edition.
A former sergeant with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office allegedly exposed himself to a female deputy in February before resigning on April 13.
Kenneth G. Steel allegedly exposed himself to a female deputy on Feb. 15 and was immediately placed on administrative leave, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
“An internal affairs and criminal investigations were immediately requested,” Furlong said. The city also was immediately informed of the situation.
“We did everything in accordance with policy,” Furlong said.
The criminal investigation was handled by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and has been handed over to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
“From a criminal side, it had to be investigated so we farmed it out. We cannot, however, comment on personnel matters,” Furlong said.
Before the internal affairs investigation was complete, Steel resigned, Furlong said.
Steel had been with the sheriff’s office for 18 years.
