The Guide to the Nevada Legislature for this session might not look different than it did in February, but it is.
The Legislative Counsel Bureau ordered the full-color guide edited to remove Steven Brooks from the Assembly pages and replace him with Tyrone Thompson.
The Clark County Commission appointed Thompson to represent District 17 in North Las Vegas after Brooks was expelled from the Assembly.
That meant replacing not only the pages bearing the official photos of Assembly members but the pages listing contact information for members and their committee assignments.
The reprint wasn’t nearly as expensive as it would seem, Legislative Counsel Bureau Director Rick Combs said. Combs said that with the turmoil surrounding Brooks and his bizarre conduct as session approached, he ordered the print shop to print about one-third the normal number of guides.
“I said, let’s just run a limited number and see what happens before we run the rest,” he said.
After Thompson’s appointment, Combs said, the increased costs were confined to redoing just the pages where Brooks’ name showed up.
That came in at “just a few hundred dollars,” he said.
The LCB also had to reprint pages in the loose-leaf version of the Legislative Manual. The bound version of that book — which is several hundred pages — wasn’t reprinted because of the cost.
Brooks is in a California jail awaiting the next phase of the case charging him with violations including resisting arrest.
