Fire at Empire: The Curry Engine Company made fast time ... but eight minutes transpired until the engine was alongside the fire. A mass of firewood regularly corded southwest of the Mexican mill was found to be in flames, the heat so intense that it needed all the firemen’s endurance. The Warrens went down about an hour after the Currys started. Lost were eight hundred to eighteen hundred cords belonging to Mr. Longabaugh of Empire, the Vucanovich Brothers of Carson and the Mexican Mill Company.
