The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will distribute free coupons for produce to low-income Carson City residents 60 and older.

The coupons, through the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program, will be distributed in the lobby of the Carson City Community Center from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday. Each coupon book contains 15 coupons worth $2 each to be used at the Saturday Morning Farmer’s Market at Third and Curry streets. The market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays starting June 8.

Recipients’ income must be $20,665 or less. An eligible senior couple whose combined income does not exceed $27,991 can receive two books.

Applications will not be handed out before the distribution. Recipients must be Carson City residents with a Nevada ID card or Nevada driver’s license and must sign a self-certification form.

The program is a cooperative effort by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, the Nevada State Commodity Food Distribution Program, the Nevada Department of Agriculture, the Nevada Certified Farmers’ Market Association and the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division.
