Barring a gubernatorial intervention, sports betting kiosks in Nevada are set to become a thing of the past.
The Assembly voted unanimously Thursday to pass SB416, which prohibits the free-standing sports-betting machines in small establishments with restricted gambling licenses as of July 1.
Supporters say the bill clarifies the differences between restricted and non-restricted gambling licensees in the Silver State.
Opponents contend it squashes entrepreneurialism and small businesses.
Lawmakers rejected an amendment that would have allowed the kiosks to remain in operation two more years while a study was conducted to assist lawmakers in setting optimal gambling policy during the next Legislature.
Other sections require restricted gambling establishments to have at least 2,500 square feet of space for patrons, a permanent bar and a restaurant that meets certain standards.
