The fighters have been signed, sealed and delivered.

Now, it’s time for the 28 boxers to put their skills on display today at the annual Night of Boxing at the Elmo Dericco Gym. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the bouts begin at 6 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser for the Fallon wrestling program.

The event features 10 undercard bouts, two semi-main events and two main events.

The semi-main bouts feature one battle between girls — Haley Sanches and Katelynn White. The boys semi-main bout pits Greenwave soccer teammates Ian Foster against Chuy Lopez.

The girls main event features Tashina Lake against Hailey Bunker, while Nick Marsan and Zach Shipton will battle in the final bout of the night.

“The kids are super excited,” Fallon wrestling coach Mitch Overlie said. “We are just trying to get them to calm down.”

For the past three weeks, Overlie and his crew have instilled the basics of boxing to the athletes. Footwork, head and hand movements are several aspects of the sport the boxers have worked on. Each fight consists of three 1-minute rounds.

Overlie said the girls main event between Lake and Bunker is one of the premier fights. He could not get the matchup last year, but added it has the potential to be the best fight of the night.

The boys main, meanwhile, features Marsan and Shipton, who each won their bouts last year.

“I think it’s going to be fast and furious,” Overlie said. “I think those are going to be some top-notch main events.”

As for the undercards, Overlie said Bryson Abe and Ricky Rogers should be an entertaining battle, as should Austin Mize and Davis Koenig.

“Some of those matches are going to shock some people because they will be entertaining,” Overlie added.
