State Sen. Barbara Cegavske is launching her candidacy for secretary of state.
Cegavske has served 12 years in the Nevada Senate, six in the Assembly and is termed out from seeking re-election. She announced her bid for secretary of state on Thursday.
A conservative Republican, the 62-year-old Cegavske says she’s running to ensure the integrity of Nevada’s elections.
She says she’ll also work to keep Nevada attractive for businesses.
Cegavske is the second Republican to announce plans to replace Ross Miller as Nevada’s top election officer. Political newcomer Jordan Bradley also plans to seek the Republican nomination.
Democratic state Treasure Kate Marshall also is running for the office.
