Monday’s tilt was just for show.
The Fallon girls soccer team lost at Truckee, 2-0, but only seeding was on the line. Not that it matters, since the Lady Wave will host the Northern Division I-A regional Friday and Saturday at the Edward Arciniega Complex.
Fallon, the No. 3 seed, and No. 2 Truckee meet at 2 p.m. Friday, while regular-season champs South Tahoe (13-1-2, 41 points) takes on Elko (10-4-2, 32) at noon. The winners meet at 10 a.m. Saturday and clinch a berth to the state tournament.
Times for the matches were originally set for 1 and 3 p.m., but the Nevada Interscholastics Activities Association changed the times pending securing referees.
This will be the third meeting between Fallon and Truckee this season, with the two clubs netting a scoreless tie on Oct. 4 in Fallon.
Leading the way for the Lady Wave, though, are seniors Maddie Alegre (16 goals, eight assists), Monica Mills (12 goals, seven assists) and Becca Mills (10 goals, five assists).
Mixing it up in the midfield and backline are Kailey Davis, Sam Burton and goalkeeper Erin Nelson (16 goals allowed, 130 saves).
As for the southern regional, Pahrump Valley, the No. 1 seed in the Sunset Division, defended its state crown with a 15-0 drubbing over the Sunrise’s No. 4 seed Moapa Valley on Monday. Desert Pines (No. 2 Sunrise), fell to Cheyenne (No. 3 Sunset), 1-0.
SECTA, the Sunrise’s No. 1 seed, slipped past Clark (No. 4 Sunset), 1-0, while Faith Lutheran (No. 2 Sunset) rolled past Virgin Valley (No. 3 Sunrise), 7-0.
SECTA takes on Faith Lutheran and Pahrump Valley and Cheyenne fight for a berth in the state tournament. Both matches are today.
On the boys side, Fallon’s last-ditch effort to clinch a spot in the postseason fell short after the Greenwave were swept by Sparks, 7-0, and Truckee, 9-2, last week. Elko, meanwhile, secured the final spot with a season-ending sweep over Spring Creek and Lowry.
The Wovlerines (14-1-1, 43) earned the No. 1 seed thanks to a 3-3 tie between Sparks (14-1-1, 43) and South Tahoe (12-3-1, 37) last week. Truckee holds the tiebreaker over Sparks.
Truckee tangles with No. 4 Elko (7-8-1, 22) at noon on Friday, while Sparks and South Tahoe battle at 2 p.m. The winners play for the league title Saturday at noon.
In the south, Tuesday’s matches featured the Sunset’s No. 1 seed Western (11-0-3, 36) played the Sunrise’s fourth seed, Chaparral (6-5-1, 19), Sunrise No. 2 and defending state champ SECTA (9-2-1, 28) against Sunset No. 3 Faith Lutheran (7-3-4, 25), Sunrise No. 1 Desert Pine (10-0-2, 32) takes on Sunset No. 4 Mojave (8-5-1, 25) and Sunset No. 2 Clark (11-0-3, 36) faces Sunrise No. 3 Sunrise Mountain (7-3-2).
The southern tournament continues Thursday and Saturday with the top two teams filling out the state tournament.
