July 21, 1949 - Nov. 1, 2013
John L. Wood, 64, passed November 1st surrounded by his loving wife and sons, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, at their home in Kingston, NV. John was born in Bishop, Ca. July 21, 1949, and moved to Carson City in 1957, graduating from Carson High School in 1967.
John loved all sports, and baseball in particular, playing on Little League and Babe Ruth all-star teams, and later with the excellent, Carson Merchants fast- pitch softball team. “Pop” was also an avid, top notch fly fisherman, hunter and had very few rivals as a story teller.
John retired from Sierra Pacific Power Co. as Director of Marketing and more recently worked as the Public Works Supervisor for Chugach Support Services at the Fallon Naval Air Station.
John’s family were pioneers that arrived in the Owens Valley, Ca. in 1850 and later homesteaded in the Little Fish Lake Valley in central Nevada in the early 1920s. That same love for Nevada is what led John to move to Kingston. John was preceded in death by his father, George “Shorty” Wood, and his sister, Lana. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda; sons, John (Torrie), and Rowdy (Marla); his mother, Leona, and brother, Jim (Cathy). He had seven wonderful grandchildren, Leslie (Brandon), Gillian, Chance, Averie, Ava, Molly and Macy. He also enjoyed the newest addition, his first great grandson, Brayden.
Family and friends will have a celebration of life in Kingston at a future date. Alcohol will flow.
