Last month’s 5th annual Cancer Sucks 5k attracted over 320 walkers and runners and raised nearly $8,000 to benefit local cancer patients through the Carson Tahoe Health Foundation.

Willow Bill needs help lighting reindeer
“Willow Bill” Goulardt is asking for the community’s help in wrapping willow reindeer with Christmas lights. Willow Bill makes the reindeer with school children in the area then displays them along Highway 395, from Gardnerville to Reno. Each reindeer is signed by the children who worked on it. He expects to have 1,000 completed by the end of this season. He will be hosting a reindeer wrapping party 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Carson Mall 1227 S. Evergreen Gene’s hosting bazaar this weekend
Evergreen Gene’s is hosting a Christmas Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There will be various local crafters offering their various items for sale as well as local musicians Justin Liberman and Bob Lambert. Samples of Wassail, Christmas Tea, Chocolate and Gourmet popcorn will be served. Evergreen Gene’s is locarted at 1811 North Carson St. next to the Grocery Outlet. ‘Good Turn’ food drive is set
The Pinenut District of the Nevada Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America will collect food for pantries in Carson City, Dayton, Minden, Gardnerville, and South Lake Tahoe on Nov. 16. Non-perishable food must be placed in plastic bags on doorsteps by 9 a.m. for pickup. Youth and volunteers participating in the “Good Turn for America Scouting for Food Drive” will be wearing their official Scout uniform. For more information, call 775-884-0838.
Scholarship recipients to present Nov. 20
Coby Clark, Bailey Kahue, Katrina Kelly, Itzel Salazar Garcia, and Hannah Rickman, scholarship recipients at Western Nevada College, will present at the Leisure Hour Club’s monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Carson Nugget.

Presentation about Silver Mountain City is set
Karen and Rick Dustman, authors of “Silver Mountain City: Ghost of the Sierra,” will be featured at Douglas County Historical Society’s monthly lecture at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 N. in Gardnerville.

Holiday dance party is Dec. 7
High Sierra Swing Dance Club will present a holiday dance party from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St.
Partners are not required. Admission is free for High Sierra Swing Dance Club members; $7 for members of other dance clubs and $10 for nonmembers. Join the club that night and the dance is free.
