For the eighth year in a row, Holiday with a Hero seeks donations to help 200 elementary school students have a brighter holiday season.
The students will be taken shopping on Dec. 17 and partnered with a first responder, members of the military and heroes of all stripes. This year’s fundraising goal is $20,000 so that each of the students can spend $100 on presents.
The children often buy necessities for their family members and not items for themselves, Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzalez said.
The children also will get to spend some time with Santa, who will be brought to Carson City on a medical helicopter, allowing the reindeer to rest up for the big night. Volunteers will be on hand to wrap the presents, Gonzalez said.
Checks need to be made payable to “Holiday with a Hero” and donations can be mailed to:
PO Box 2790, Carson City, NV 89702
They can be taken to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 911 E. Musser St.
They can be made at Bank of the West at 2976 N. Carson Street under Account No. 025761072.
The tax identification number is 80-0763632.
Gonzalez said donations made any other way don’t go to the “Holiday with a Hero” program.
“It’s only possible because of the generosity of this community. Period,” Gonzalez said previously. “We see the same citizens who come together and push this through” to the funding goal.
