SPARKS — Two longtime Nevada farm families have been added to the Nevada Centennial Ranch and Farm Awards Program recognizing those who have owned and operated the same agricultural land for 100 years or more.
The Nevada/California Cattlemen’s Association recently announced the addition of the Martin Ranch near Eureka and the Manha Farm in Yerington.
James and Agnes Morrison established the Martin Ranch in Antelope Valley in 1887. Their granddaughter, Vickie Buchanan and her son, Beau, now run the cattle and hay ranch that’s been in the family for six generations.
The Manha Farm was purchased in 1912 by Antone Manha, who raised dairy cattle and hay. His grandson, William Manha, now leases out the farm that raises premium garlic and alfalfa hay.
The program started in 2004 now has 47 inductees.
