Thanksgiving dinner
Every Thanksgiving for more than 35 years, Christian Life Center has enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal with its congregation.
As they have done for several years, the church invites the community to join them again this year for a dinner at the Fallon Convention Center on Nov. 24 from noon-3 p.m.
The church served more than 850 people last year for dinner, which included not only church members but also invited guests, Naval Air Station Fallon personnel and community residents. This year, the church is expecting to serve more than 950 people. Many congregation volunteers help with greeting, serving, providing kitchen service and cleaning tables and the kitchen. The Churchill County High School Junior ROTC cadets help with setting tables, bussing and cleaning. Several men from the church volunteer to cook the turkeys.
The meal will be purchased, cooked and served by the congregation. The menu consists of turkey dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls and a variety of desserts.
To ensure there is room for all to attend, members of the community and Navy service members and their families are invited at noon, and the church congregation will eat at 2 p.m.
Volunteers needed Thanksgiving dinner
As Thanksgiving approaches, more volunteers are needed to help prepare the third annual Fernley Community Thanksgiving Dinner.
The turkeys will be provided to volunteer cooks prior to the event. Volunteers are also needed to help plan the event.
The dinner was organized to bring the community together to share a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and the dinner is not only for those who may be alone during the holiday, but for people who simply want to get to know their neighbors and other members of the town.
Volunteers who donate their time to this event not only help to make someone’s holiday better, but it also reinforces community pride.
The dinner will be held on Nov. 28 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Fernley Senior Citizens Center on Newlands Drive and is free for everyone in the community and for people of all ages and all walks of life.
Food donations and/or monetary donation are needed. For more information call Robert Gleason at 775-846-3129 and leave message with your name and number if there is no answer.
The event is sponsored by the community and local business owners.
