The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation has issued a report showing that private-sector job growth in Nevada outstripped growth in 34 other states in the first quarter of 2013.

Nevada had the nation’s highest rate of job growth in 2004-05. That disappeared during the recession, as the state fell to the lowest rate among all states in 2009-10.

“Over the course of just a few years, Nevada went from the strongest-performing state in the nation to the most economically distressed state in the country,” said Gov. Brian Sandoval.

But, he said, this year’s numbers indicate that Nevada is back.

“Based upon a complete count of jobs in the first three months of this year, there are 22,000 more private-sector jobs than a year ago,” he said.

That is a growth rate of 2.3 percent, a higher rate than 34 other states for private jobs.

“These results give me great confidence as we work together to continue Nevada’s comeback,” he said.
