The citizens of Carson have raised by subscription sufficient means to complete the building of the wagon road between Columbus and Carson. They have been somewhat tardy in the matter; but, according to the Appeal, the effort has at last been crowned with success — Reese River Reveille. We are glad of this Great Eastern mark of appreciation. Let our epitaph be “He never let up until they built the Columbus wagon road.” Appeal.

It is said that the inmates of the State Prison are indignant because the meetings of the Board of Pardons have been limited to two per annum. The convicts should certainly have been consulted.

The plans for the establishment of an evening paper in this city is underway as evidenced by the option on a building in a good location for 60 days providing also for a three-year lease. A great many of the businesspeople are more than anxious for a new paper and will provide financial assistance if necessary. On the other hand, there are certain political aspirants who would again eat at the pie counter, who do not want another paper launched. The idea is well underway ...

Miss Margarie Yvonne Riise, a popular San Francisco girl, became the bride of Lester H. Groth, Seaman 1c in the United States Navy, at an impressive ceremony performed in the presence of the immediate family at the Methodist Church in Carson City. Before entering the Navy, Groth was employed at the Nevada Appeal.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.

Washoe Valley residents trying to escape a new smog inspection rule by registering their cars in Carson City are fighting a lost cause according to the chief of registration of the DMV. Monday was the first day of registration for Washoe and Clark County residents under new smog inspection rules.
