The race between Reynolds and Holm for a hundred dollars came off yesterday in Eureka. The race was on a level piece of ground north of the Phenix mine. The race was a hundred and fifty yards. The report of a pistol started the race. At the first foothold, Holm’s foot slipped and his opponent dashed eight feet ahead before he regained position. At the end, the hundred dollars came to Reynolds.

Empire is growing very ambitious. There is a haunted house there now, and it is said that the spectral occupant has been seen by a dozen people. A ghost that has not intelligence enough to select a more cheerful abiding place than Empire is a very cheap affair. He should go to Reno.

It has been announced that the management will change in the Appeal and James T. Green, under lease for three years, is to retire. Mr. Green has made good in building up the Appeal business, and relinquishes the helm with the best wishes of the craft throughout the state. — Virginia City Chronicle

Ceiling prices for ammunition for civilian use were established at retail and wholesale levels at levels of March, 1942: shotgun shells, (25), $1.38 per box.; rim fire cartridges (50) .22 long rife, $.34 per box; and center fire .30-.30, $1.46 per box.

A bewhiskered crew of Carson City 20-30 members gathered at the Red Rooster Monday for a combined installation and past active night. Paul Laxalt, past active member and past president of the local 20-30 club, did the honors. Officers include John Meder, Keith Smiley, Dan Humphreys, Bernard Allen, Carl Bennett and Mel Felesina.

A Bureau of Land Management spokesman says the agency will check into a report of motorcyclists riding on the north and west faces of Prison Hill, a violation of restrictions against motorized travel.
