If Adam Shoaf could be any cartoon character, he would be Tarzan “because he lives in a tree, and he’s jacked.”
The Carson High School student body learned that about their classmate as he was officially introduced as one of the candidates for 2013 Homecoming king during an assembly Tuesday afternoon.
Candidates revealed plans, cities they would like to visit and other tidbits about their lives.
Ivan Gates shared his favorite pun: “Have you seen the new corduroy pillow? I hear they’re making headlines.”
The six king and six queen candidates were nominated by their peers and will be selected through a student vote. Winners will be announced at halftime of Friday’s football game.
“I feel very honored that my fellow classmates elected me to represent them during Homecoming week,” said Tara Berkich, 17. “It was a really big surprise to me. I didn’t expect it.”
Andrew Gutierrez, 18, was equally pleased by his fellow nominees.
“I was happy it was with my friends,” he said. “I get to go through experience with all my friends from high school.”
During the assembly, science teacher Julie Koop fed the blindfolded candidates “slugs from the rainforest.”
“They make you good-looking,” she promised, before handing out the gummy worms. “They make you healthy. But, most of all, they guarantee Homecoming king and queen winners.”
Although all the candidates ate the “slugs,” some think the winners are already a forgone conclusion.
“I think Tony Cacioppo will win,” said fellow candidate Chase Blueberg, 18. “He’s the nicest kid. He even gets my vote.”
