Reduction of the school force. Because of a falling off in the school fund, Mr. Howe’s assistant, Miss Rogers, has been dispensed of. The School Board found the budget likely to fall short $1,500-$2,000. She was in a position to offer the least injury to the school.

Every man in this state who owns a few steers and a Durham bull is called a “cattle king.” On the same principle why should not chicken ranchers with over 100 head of chickens be called poultry kings?

After an absence of 23 years scenting the atmospheric conditions of many other states, Dexter C. Grunow has again come back to Nevada to keep a weather eye. In 1890-91 Dexter was stationed in Carson City. On returning to Reno, he was astonished as to the gains the city has made and glad for the same old golden sunshine he knew years ago. — Journal

A serious shortage of ammunition is hampering Nevada’s war against predatory animals. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, they have not received any ammunition since June, causing many ranchers of the state losses as high as 20 percent due to attacks by predatory animals.

The City Council is considering revision of the city building code to bring it “up to date.” It is hoped the change will bring Carson City building code requirements up to date with more progressive cities.

Car sales were up 16.6 percent in the 1983 model year with domestic auto makers regaining 1.3 percent of the market from foreign competition.
