William Allan “Bing” Blood, son of Robert Blood and Vera Hanner Blood was born in Buchanan, Michigan on February 21, 1942 and passed away October 6, 2013 in Reno, NV at the V.A. Hospital.
Bing was a graduate from Buchanan High School and entered the Marine Corps in 1960 along with his two brothers, Bob and Barrie Blood. Bing was in the 3rd. Recon Battalion, upon returning from overseas he was stationed at the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center at Pickel Meadows, Bridgeport, CA. He received an honorable discharge in June 1964 and continued in the Reserves until June 1965.
Bing was the proprietor and operator of “Gent’s Den” barber shop for 43 years where endless hours were spent talking about hunting, fishing and of course wrestling.
Bing wrestled in High School and the Marine Corps wrestling team in 1961 and the Division 11 th Naval District Wrestling Team. After five years of volunteering with the Carson High Wrestling Team he became a wrestling official officiating in 18 AA & AAA State Tournaments. He assisted in coaching 13 Individual Nevada State Champions and was President of the Northern Nevada Officials Association. In October of 2009 he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Stillwater, Oklahoma for his Lifetime Service to the sport.
Bing met, Stella Woolsey, the love of his life in May 1971 and they married on November 11, 1972 sharing 42 years of wonderful memories. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by his wife; daughter, Michelle (Greg) Yup; grandchildren, Ashley and Robert Yup; brother, Barrie Blood (Jenny); and numerous nieces and nephews. Bing was preceded in death by a son, Billy Blood; his parents, Robert and Vera Blood and brother, Robert (Bob) Blood.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Veterans Hospital in Reno, NV and their Hospice Unit for the kindness, respect and care they showed Bing and his family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Carson High School Gym from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Carson High School Wrestling Team or to the Veterans Guest House at 880 Locust Street, Reno, NV 89502.
