Austin’s House, an emergency children’s shelter near the Carson City/Douglas County border, is marking six years of operations with its second giving campaign, the 2013 Appeal For Kids.
The 10-bedroom facility, which houses children in crisis, opened in September 2007 and was built entirely with donations.
“We are so fortunate for the support of the surrounding communities over the past six years,” said Conrad Buedel, treasurer of the Austin’s House board of directors. “A lot has changed since we opened our doors. The need for our services has increased 30 percent in the past year alone. Children are now staying an average of 50 days compared to 21 days in past years.”
This year’s fundraising goal is $40,000, according to a news release. For more information about Austin’s House or the Appeal For Kids campaign, or to make a donation, call at 775-267-6711 or go to www.austins house.org.
