Carson High School was recognized for dedication to health and fitness by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, which was founded by the American Heart Association and Clinton Foundation.

“It’s so wonderful to have such an inspiring role model and advocate, especially during a time when schools and districts across the country are asked to do more with less resources,” said Abby Manishor, communications manager for the alliance.

The school was awarded a silver status after receiving bronze from the same organization in 2011 for transforming its campus into a healthier place.

Students took part in a “Get Fit Club” to stay active after school. Additional activities were offered throughout the year, such as yoga, scavenger hunts, walking clubs and fun runs.

To earn the National Recognition Award, schools must improve their nutrition services and physical activity programs to meet or exceed stringent standards set by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program.
