Carson’s Chinatown. An occasional visit to Chinatown — in the daytime — if prompted by proper motives, is conductive of profitable information and gratifying emotions — saving such offense as may come to an oversensitive development of the olfactories. In one sense, the site of Chinatown is well chosen, for like classic Florence with its Otra-Arno or Paris with its dividing Seine, it stands upon two sides of a small rivulets whose flow carries off no little of the impurities which elsewise might gather and fester unbearably (continued Thursday).

The other day the editor of the Appeal, not being on hand when the copy hook was bare, the foreman grabbed a Reno Journal and scissored out an article from that paper and put it in type. After it was set it was discovered it was an article published in the Appeal a day or two before, with no attribution. The Journal has forgotten to give credit. Mr. Powning must be more careful.

The people of this city will shortly have the pleasure of hearing a lady speaker tell why women should not be given the ballot. She has an excellent argument which will prove interesting. Miss Markeson, a lady well versed on the question from the “anti” standpoint, is making arrangements.

Pfc. Lawrence Schmidtlein, who has been with the United States Army in North Africa for eight months, is visiting at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cameron of Carson City. After his service, Pfc. Schmidtlien will resume ranching in the Smokey Valley.

Gov. Grant Sawyer’s Lake Tahoe committee today gave tentative approval to plan for a 2.56-mile tunnel which would carry sewage out of the Lake Tahoe Basin and into Carson Valley.

Stop the presses. The latest flash comes from a wire story which sheepishly informed us the latest creature to be endangered is the sheep. “How’s that for improving your storehouse of knowledge?” says Chris Schaller, columnist.
