Carson’s Chinatown (continued from Friday) Of the new Joss house we have already made mention, the gilt sign boards with their many mottoes and the sayings of Confucius are almost rich. It is the custom of the first person to enter this pagan temple in the morning to light one of the joss-sticks with which the outside altar is always supplied. The little old man who lives in the medicine chest adjoining came in quietly and solemnly and lighted a bit of incense while we were in there. Maybe he thought the place had better be smoked after we had been about.

A good ordinance. The curfew ordinance published was drawn up by Mr. Kennedy and provides that all boys under 16 years of age must be off the street by eight o’clock. It is something needed in Carson and will be endorsed by every parent and will clean the streets of boys at the hour named. The penalty is both fine and imprisonment.

100 years ago

Yesterday afternoon the City Council opened the coffers and withdrew all the money wherein and then some to the extent of $5,605 for the purchase of a motor fire truck. There was considerable debate and jockeying over the matter by members of the city council.

Hunters must wait until 6:41 a.m., an additional one minute longer tomorrow, to start shooting ducks and stop at the official time of 6:18 p.m. Monday, ducks will be safe until 6:43 a.m.

National School Lunch Week was observed in Carson City Monday when service club representatives and members of the Ormsby County School Board were invited to lunch.
