UNR Homecoming: March from the Arch

The inaugural Nevada Wolf Pack March from the Arch will be held in downtown Reno at 7:30 p.m., Friday.

The March from the Arch, presented by Barrick Gold and supported by many other local sponsors, including the city of Reno, will feature University of Nevada, Reno homecoming floats, the Wolf Pack Marching Band and various alumni and businesses.

The community is invited to join the march up Virginia Street to the University’s historic Quad for a pep rally, carnival and Lighting of the Wolf to cheer on the Wolf Pack Football team which takes on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebels at Mackay Stadium on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Homecoming is an exciting time to be on campus at Nevada. The weeklong celebration honors our history and includes traditional events like the wolf’s frolic talent show, homecoming parade and the big game on Saturday.

Whether you’re a student, an alumni, or community member we invite you to campus to join the fun.

The annual Battle for the Fremont Cannon between Nevada and UNLV will kick-off at at Mackay Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Nevada will be looking to extend its winning streak in the rivalry to nine straight years.

Last year, Nevada came from behind to beat the Rebels 42-37 in Las Vegas. A few tickets for the game are still available (as of Tuesday afternoon) at NevadaWolfPack.com or by calling (775) 348-PACK.


Schedule of Events:

5 p.m.: “Social” and Rally - Harrah’s Reno Plaza, downtown Reno

7:30 p.m.: Homecoming Parade of Lights and Wolf Pack March from the Arch presented by Barrick Gold, starting under the Reno Arch after welcome from City of Reno Mayor Bob Cashell - Virginia Street and Commercial Row

8 p.m.: Homecoming Carnival complete with food trucks, games, bounce houses and more ­— University Quad

9:30 p.m.: Homecoming pep rally with representatives from Barrick Gold, University President Marc Johnson and Wolf Pack Football Coach Brian Polian, and featuring the Lighting of the Wolf — University Quad

The week-long Homecoming celebration honors the University of Nevada, Reno traditions with the Wolves Frolic Talent Show and Wolf Trot, and introduces new events like the transformation of the Quad to Nevadaville, presented by the Associated Student of the University of Nevada, Reno (ASUN).

The Reno City Council has issued a proclamation proclaiming “Wolf Pack Fridays.”

Mayor Bob Cashell and the Reno City Council encourage and challenge the community to wear blue University clothing on all Fridays remaining in 2013, including during the March from the Arch event.
