Carson City woman arrested on felony child-abuse count

A 30-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for allegedly fracturing her 2-year-old son’s skull.

The arrest followed a report of a boy with a fractured skull who had been taken to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Two Carson City deputies were dispatched Oct. 23 to the hospital after receiving a report of a boy with a fractured skull. Ivette Olmos-Campos initially told deputies and hospital staffers that her son had fallen down at her home two days earlier.

Deputies noticed bruising on the boy’s arms, legs and back, and an X-ray revealed an older and mostly healed fracture of his left arm.

Olmos-Campos and her boyfriend were taken to the Detective Division for an interview, which was conducted via a deputy who speaks Spanish Olmos-Campos admitted she had been abusing the boy for four months, saying she did so about three times a day. She said that on Oct. 7, the boy had bitten her daughter, and that she’d struck him on the head twice with a wooden stick. She added that he’d collapsed and lost consciousness, and that she’d thought he was dead, according to the detectives’ report.

On Oct. 21, the boy threw food at Olmos-Campos, she said, and she hit him in the head with the stick again. After that, she said, he would vomit, lose consciousness, and lose his balance and fall down randomly. After his condition worsened over the next two days, she took him to the hospital.

Olmos-Campos was arrested on suspicion of child abuse with substantial bodily harm, as well as on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement warrant. No bail was set on the warrant.
