Fallon man found dead at state prison

A 31-year-old Fallon man was died Friday after prison authorities found him unresponsive in his cell four days earlier.

Joseph Oxford-McArthur was found by officials at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City on Oct. 21. It is the fourth death at the prison this month, according to media reports.

Nevada Department of Correction officials did not release the cause of death, citing an ongoing investigation.

Oxford-McArthur was serving a 12-36 month sentence for a felony conviction of battery that constitutes domestic violence, third or subsequent offense. He was eligible for parole after 12 months and was given credit for 29 days time served at the sentencing hearing.

His prior two convictions (one in 2012 and one in 2010) were misdemeanors in Justice Court. Oxford-McArthur, though, also had two drug-related convictions according to staff at the Tenth Judicial District Court.

Harry Dahling was sentenced Tuesday in District Court to nine months in the Churchill County Jail for grand larceny.

Dahling was arrested in Oklahoma on a warrant after failing to appear at a previous sentencing hearing.

His attorney, Paul Drakulich, said Dahling suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, and asked for probation so Dahling could tend to his pregnant girlfriend in Oklahoma.

Jessie Murray Morin pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of attempt to commit burglary.

According to court records, Morin entered Walmart on Aug. 20 and stole $79 worth of items. Morin said he was off his medication, hearing voices and wanted to “take whatever I wanted.” He will be sentenced Dec. 17.

Tina Ann Moreno pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of unlawful use or being under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to her attorney, Troy Jordan, Moreno was nabbed after a controlled buy with two other individuals. Jordan said Moreno passed money between the two parties.

She was referred to the Western Regional Drug Court.
