Smoke conditions are still fluid, but the Fallon soccer teams, as of Tuesday, are scheduled to open the regular season today against Incline at the Edward Arciniega Complex.
The boys game starts at 3 p.m. and the girls kick off at 5 p.m.
The nonconference matchup pits two of the top programs in the North. Fallon qualified both the boys and girls teams in the Northern Division I-A regional tournament, while Incline captured last year’s DIII state titles in both.
The Greenwave, meanwhile, were finally able to hit the field last weekend in a preseason tournament in Spring Creek. The Lady Wave went 2-0-1 in their three matches and tallied 13 goals.
Fallon rolled past Battle Mountain, 8-0, dropped Jerome (Idaho), 4-0, and tied Spring Creek, 1-1.
Monica Mills netted four goals, while Maddie Alegre and Macy Myers each scored two. Against Battle Mountain, Kailey Davis scored 80 seconds into the match to lift Fallon.
As for the boys, Fallon slipped past Spring Creek, 2-1, shutout Battle Mountain, 2-0, and were thumped by Jerome, 9-0.
Fidel Enriquez scored a goal and had an assist against Spring Creek, while Keven Rutledge tallied the second score. Corbin Waite and Enriquez each recorded goals for the Wave against Battle Mountain.
Volleyball wins 4 in Winnemucca
The Fallon volleyball team had a solid outing at the Lowry Tournament last weekend in Winnemucca.
The Lady Wave went 4-2 with wins over Elko, Whittell, Battle Mountain and Middleton (Idaho) on Friday. On Saturday, however, Fallon stumbled as the Lady Wave lost the rematch to Middleton, 2-0, and fell 2-1 to Lowry.
Fallon travels to North Valleys on Thursday, the Lassen Tournament on Saturday and opens league play Tuesday against Northern Division I-A rival Fernley at the Elmo Dericco Gym.
