Carson City’s air quality rating was down to “unhealthy” as of 9 a.m., according to AirNow.gov. But relief likely is on the way, the National Weather Service in Reno says.
The Rim fire is more than 80 percent contained, but wind blowing from the southwest continues to send smoke into Carson City.
“The good news is, we are expecting the wind pattern to shift,” meteorologist Scott McGuire said. “So finally we’re going to get a little bit of relief — hopefully by Friday and definitely by Saturday.”
A weather system moving in from the west will send the wind blowing from the northwest, pushing the smoke south of Carson City and Carson Valley, McGuire said.
All Carson City organized sporting events set for today have been canceled. All school-involved sports events also have been canceled in Douglas, Storey and Washoe counties. Such events are still on in Lyon County.
