A former Greenwave star is working her way up in the basketball circuit.
After playing four sports at Fallon and then starring for Rocky Mountain College, Liz Lewis received her first head coaching assignment. Lewis, who had assistant coaching stints at Rocky Mountain, Central Washington University and Montana State University-Northern, became last month the head women’s coach at Miles Community College in Miles City, Mont.
“To find someone of Liz’s quality, work ethic and knowledge this late in the year is critical for our department and for the ladies of her program,” MCC athletic director Jeff Brabant said of the 2005 Fallon grad. “Liz comes to us with a great deal of enthusiasm and experience. Having served as an assistant at both Rocky and Northern, Coach Lewis has an extensive background recruiting Montana athletes. Expect a lot of great things coming from the Lady Pioneer program for years to come as Coach Lewis instills her coaching philosophy. Again, we welcome Coach Lewis to our Pioneer family and we are excited at the product that she will be putting on the floor for our fans and alumnus.”
Lewis joins former Fallon grad Shawn Nelson, who leads Central Washington, as the only Fallon alums coaching women’s collegiate basketball.
Lewis lettered in soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball with the Greenwave, racking up an assortment of league, regional and state honors. Lewis’ love, though, was basketball as she finished as a two-time First Team All-Frontier guard and was named the school’s Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. Lewis’ dedication to the sport was seen off the court as she earned a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a Master’s in coaching and athletic administration.
MCC begins the season on Nov. 1 as the Pioneers host the Foundation Classic.
