Senior Follies production this weekend

The annual Senior Follies, “Around the World in 80 Minutes,” shows three times this weekend. The show opens at 7 p.m. Friday and continues at 7 p.m. Saturday. A 2 p.m. matinee will take place on Sunday. All shows are at the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Tickets cost $15 per person and $10 for students and seniors. Children age 5 and younger are admitted free. All proceeds will benefit the Carson City Senior Center’s meal program.

Author is set to present stories of Tahoe

Author and Tahoe historian Mark McLaughlin will present a collection of entertaining stories about the history of Lake Tahoe at 10 a.m. Sept. 23 at Sierra Place, 1111 W. College Parkway.

Story topics include: Lucky Baldwin, battles at Pyramid Lake, George Whittell and his Thunderbird Lodge and more.

Work of Dusty Roads Art Group on display at BAC

Art work by the Dusty Roads Art Group of Virginia City’s St. Mary’s Art Center is on display at Carson City’s Brewery Arts Center.

The Nevada Artist Association is hosting the Dusty Roads exhibit in it’s BAC gallery through Oct. 18. In addition, members will be showing some of their latest paintings in oils, acrylics, pastels and water colors.

Polar Express holiday train tickets are available

Tickets are available for this year’s Polar Express holiday train rides set to depart the Eastgate Depot Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 22 through Dec. 22.

The rides are based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg and feature a conductor to punch tickets and chefs to serve cookies and hot chocolate, followed by a reading of the book and appearances by Santa.

VIP tickets cost $62 for children ages 2 to 12 and $72 for adults and offer additional entertainment, extra time with Santa, treats and souvenirs. Coach tickets cost $29 for children and $38 for adults.

Lyon County Fly-In is set to showcase planes

Pilots will showcase planes at the 2013 Lyon County Fly-In to be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28-29 at the Silver Springs/Lyon County Regional Airport.

Attendees can meet pilots, builders and restorers of military, antique and ultra-light aircraft.

There will be a pancake breakfast each day and crafts, food, live entertainment, raffles, classic cars, motorcycles and more.

Craft spaces are available for $50, and food vending spaces are available for $70. Booths for nonprofit groups cost $20.

HopeFest is set to benefit cancer patients

Carson Tahoe Health’s HopeFest has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 4 on Third Street, near Firkin & Fox.

The event offers food, drink and live music. Admission is free, and all proceeds from food and drinks will benefit local cancer patients.

Raffle tickets to win a new car or $10,000 in cash are still on sale. The winning ticket will be pulled at the event.
