GRASS VALLEY — Carson High’s varsity girls cross country team finished fifth at the Nevada Union Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Carson was fifth behind Douglas. Whitney, Nevada Union and Sheldon.
Alex Drozdoff was seventh overall in 20:10, while Cindy Juchtzer was 15th. Shelby Brown was 27th in 22:01, while Athena Favero and Alison Greene were 43rd and 47th, respectively. The team ran without Eveline Delgado, who had a family engagement.
“The younger girls improved,” said coach Pete Sinnott. “Shelby improved by 74 seconds from last year and Athena improved by 19 seconds. Greene improved by 68 seconds.”
The Carson varsity boys squad finished eighth. Sheldon, Roseville, Whitney, Douglas, McQueen, Spanish Springs and Reno all finished ahead of the Senators, who ran without Porfirio Jauregui. Anthony Cacioppo was 16th in 17:34.10, while Tylar Chester was 27th in 18:12. Daniel Jauregui was 35th, Wyatt Cartier was 38th and Tony Xie was 45th.
The JV boys were fourth, as Douglas took the top five spots. Ian VanRensselaer led Carson with a 10th place showing, which was enough to move him up to varsity for this week’s event at Galena. Jackson Taylor (19:51.50) and Bryen Holloway (19:59.30) were 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Kiefer Catron was 25th. The JV girls also were fourth. Maritsa Mora was 15th in 24:30.50, Kara Berggren was 19th in 24:44.60 and Kyndra Holloway was 41st in 27:10.50.
