GOLDFIELD (AP) — Authorities in Nevada say one person was arrested and bomb technicians were summoned to check items found in a vehicle when the driver was arrested on U.S. 95 outside the historic Esmeralda County Courthouse.

FBI spokeswoman Bridget Pappas says agents and fire department bomb squads were sent Tuesday to Goldfield, about 185 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Esmeralda County sheriff’s Sgt. Dill Ferguson tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that about 100 people were evacuated about 7:30 a.m. from an elementary school, homes and businesses near the courthouse.

Later calls to the sheriff’s office went unanswered.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo tells the Review-Journal it appears that a driver shot at another vehicle in Tonopah, then drove about 27 miles to Goldfield before he was stopped and arrested.
