Healthy Daggs nets two in win

Josilyn Daggs believes she’s 100 percent healthy. That’s bad news for opposing Division I soccer teams.

Daggs has scored in four straight games, including two goals Tuesday night when the Senators blanked McQueen 2-0 in a crossover match at Carson High.

Carson improved to 4-0 heading into Saturday’s away match at Damonte Ranch which starts at 9 a.m.

“I think I’m pretty much 100 percent,” said Daggs, who is taking an official visit to the University of Idaho on Oct. 19. “I worked hard getting back. I didn’t stop working out ever.

“That first goal, I wasn’t going to give up on it. I can use both feet. The second one, Kiahna (Pimental) made a beautiful pass. I saw where the keeper was coming and found the opening.”

Daggs’ first goal came in the 57th minute, and she added the second goal in the 67th minute. It was her second two-goal performance of the season. and she has six goals on the season.

“Josilyn and Kiahna had a lot of scoring opportunities,” Carson coach Greg Lehman said. “Kiahna had a nice assist on that second goal.

“We have to stay patient on offense. In the first half, I thought we had some good rhythm. We had some good moments in the second half and some not-so-good moments. We were finally able to finish a couple of balls.”

In the first half, Carson outshot McQueen 5-2, and the Senators enjoyed a 7-6 edge in the second half.

Daggs had two good looks in the first half, the second coming in the 25th minute. McQueen’s best opportunity came in the 33rd minute when Carson keeper Karla Reyes collided with a teammate going after a ball. Both hit the deck, leaving the goal open. The McQueen shot was wide right. In the 34th minute, Sierra Scroggins missed wide right when she tried to sneak one past the McQueen keeper Christina Farman on the short side.

McQueen had looks in the 45th, 53rd and 66th minute, respectively, but was unable to finish.

Carson’s defense, led by the back row play of Katherine Leist, Melissa Glanzmann, Lindy Lehman and Valerie Sue Meyer, has allowed just one goal all season.

“Everybody back there (on defense) has a lot of heart,” Lehman said. “We have some young players back there, and they are still learning. They are giving 100 percent every time out there.

“Our conditioning is getting better. It’s helped being outside (to practice) the past couple of weeks.”

JV: The Carson girls also improved to 4-0 with a 5-0 win over the Lancers.

Miriam Torres, Sophia Ruedy, Lauren Hudak and Selin Lizarraga had a goal apiece. Carson also was the benefactor of an own goal. Hudak also contributed an assist.
