The second annual CASI 5K9 Fun Run/Walk will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Riverview Park.
Proceeds will go to the Carson Animal Services Initiative, the community nonprofit helping to raise money to build a new animal shelter in town.
“It’s just a fun fundraiser,” said Lisa Schuette, chairwoman of the initiative. “It’s an enjoyable way to come out with your dogs. It’s also a way to let the community know about CASI.”
Registration begins at 8 a.m. The race-day fee is $20 for the first person and $10 for each additional family member. Dogs get in free but must remain leashed.
Refreshments will be served after the run at Carson City Animal Services, and tours of the facility will be available.
In its first year, Schuette said, the organization has raised about $78,000 toward the estimated $400,000 needed to build a new shelter.
“It’s just incredible,” she said.
A second fundraiser, the Pooch Plunge, will be Sept. 28 at the Carson City Aquatic Center. Dogs will be allowed to jump into the outdoor pool before it closes for the summer.
Dogs should be up to date on their vaccines and friendly. The cost is $10 for the first dog and $5 for each additional. Sessions are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tennis balls and towels will be provided.
CASI is looking for new members and meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month at BRIC, 108 E. Proctor St.
