RENO — With 12:55 left in the first half of a scoreless match, Carson High girls coach Greg Lehman pulled starting goalie Karla Reyes.

Reyes, after a brief rest on the sideline, scored twice and added an assist to lead the Senators to an easy 4-0 Sierra League win over Damonte Ranch Saturday morning.

Carson improved to 5-0 heading into Tuesday’s home match against Wooster (7 p.m.).

“Coach told me that he’d probably put me in the field (for this game),” Reyes said. “I’m good with being the goalie, but I have fun in the field, too. I expected him to put me out there after half.”

Five minutes after she moved from goalie, Reyes headed in a Josilyn Daggs corner kick to give the Senators a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Three minutes into the second half, Reyes took a through ball from the left side of the field, carried it for a few yards and then trickled one into the right corner of the net to make it 2-0. Four minutes later, Reyes passed to Chantel Torres, whose initial shot bounced off a Damonte defender. Torres hustled after the loose ball and beat the Damonte keeper for a 3-0 lead. A minute later, Torres outraced a Damonte defender for a loose ball and converted for her second goal of the game. She has four goals on the season.

“The first one, I was looking for a ball in the air so I could head it,” Reyes said. “The second one I’m not sure who hit the through ball. I made a good run to get it.”

“Karla played in the field for us last year,” coach Greg Lehman said. “She’s always played well in the field.”

Carson played without Julie Torres and Kiahna Pimental. Their status is day-to-day.

RENO — The Senators scored two goals in the first seven minutes, and then scored twice in the closing two minutes to grab a 4-1 win Saturday afternoon.

“I’m happy with the team,” coach Mehdi Samii said after watching his team improve to 4-1 after its fourth straight win. “We’re ahead of where we were last year at this time.”

Carson entertains Wooster at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Carson’s first goal came when Guillermo Hernandez blasted a free kick from about 30 yards into the top left corner of the net against Damonte keeper Rodrigo Rivas. A minute later, Cristian Hernandez found the lower right corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Carson had a couple of good looks in the next eight minutes, but failed to convert. Midway through the opening half, Manuel Anguiano was brought down in the box, and Damonte got a PK which was converted by Miguel Rojas to make it 2-1.

The first 34 minutes of the second half saw no scoring even though both teams had some good chances. Carson keeper Gustavo Villagrana went to his knees for one shot and then deflected a hard shot away, both coming in a span of four minutes.

Freshman Oscar Ventura made it 3-1 in the 78th minute, and then Ryan Galvan scored a minute later. Galvan has cored in four straight matches and has five goals for the season.

“It was huge to get those two goals early,” Samii said. “If we’d been behind at the half we would have been in trouble because of the wind. It was good to see Oscar score.”

JV: Jaime Saldana scored a hat trick to lead the Senators to a 3-0 win over Damonte.
