Dayton sweeps Spring Creek

Dayton continued its winning ways with a three-game sweep of Spring Creek in Division 1-A volleyball action on Friday, winning 25-15, 25-7 and 25-19.

Madi Foley led the team with 17 kills. She added seven digs and four aces. Ashley Vickers added 10 kills, nine digs and five aces. Taryn Schriner added 10 digs and two aces for the Dust Devils.

The Dust Devils (19-1, 3-0 in league) host Elko at 1 p.m. today.

VC wins in five

Virginia City defeated Sierra Lutheran in five games — 25-12, 25-23, 24-26, 25-23 and 15-5 — on the road Friday night.

Leading Virginia City (10-2) was Nikki D’Agostino with 11 aces, eight kills and 17 digs. Nicole Huffman added 24 assists, seven aces and five digs.Bethany Fuller added six aces, six kills and eight digs. Sakura Brandon and Eden Gomez added 10 and nine digs respectively.

Dayton falls to Spring Creek

DAYTON — Ryan Greenwalt scored Dayton’s only goal in a 5-1 loss to Spring Creek on Friday. It was the Dust Devils first home game of the year. Greenwalt’s goal was assisted by Jaime Avila in extra time of the first half.

Goalie Jeff Brooks made 17 saves for the Dust Devils (0-3). Dayton hosts Elko at 11 a.m. today.

CROSS COUNTRY

Dayton boys fourth

DAYTON — North Tahoe boys and girls swept the Dayton Cross Country Invitational on Friday.

In the boys’ 5K race, North Tahoe’s Noah McDermott won in 17:26.

Dayton took fourth out of 11 teams thanks to a second-place finish by Aaron Elissa, who led the race for the first 1 1/2-miles.

Rounding out Dayton’s squad was JJ Ply in 13th (20:10). Nick Langstaff was 21st (21:09), Tyler Brown was 26th (21:38), Oakley Workman was 29th (22:05), Thomas Liddle was 31st (22:23) and Toby Tapley was 33rd (22:24).

Coach Shawn Anderson said freshmen Ply and Workman continue to impress him. He added that Liddle improved by three minutes in the race over last year’s time.

In the girls’ 5K race, Tara Gallant won in a time of 22:07. Dayton’s Hanna Elissa

was seventh in 24:44, a 90-second improvement from last year.

JV FOOTBALL

Carson pounds North Valleys

Carson’s JV football team rolled to an easy 63-14 win over North Valleys Thursday at Carson High School.

Carson is now 1-1.

Elijah Fajayan rushed for 167 yards and two scores and quarterback Vic Castro V completed 14-of-21 passes for 205 yards and a score. He also ran for one score and converted a 2-point conversion.

Jared Rooker accounted for more than 300 yards of offense and ran a fumble back 35 yards for a score. Caulin Bartley had a 15-yard TD reception. Cameron Radtke, Austin Lowe and Alex Estrada scored a TD apiece.

Defensively, Brady O’Keefe had seven tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception that he ran back 34 yards for a score.

Joe Nelson, Tommy Gall, Mathias Williams, Ikela Lewis, Ben Ray and Gage Gunzberg all played well defensively.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

WNC splits with Feather River

The Western Nevada College baseball team split a doubleheader with Feather River on Friday at WNC.

The teams will play another doubleheader at 10:30 a.m. today. Admission is free.

In the opening game, Feather River scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-9 decision.

In the second game, WNC held on for a 4-3 win. The game was called after six innings because of darkness.

Connor Zwetsch picked up the win for WNC. Offensively, Jack Hall had an inside the park home run and Buddy Webb had a triple.
