Fugitive shooter nabbed by Reno PD

A Fallon man accused of a shooting on Sept. 13 at the Overland Hotel was arrested Sunday afternoon by Reno police, according to Fallon Police Capt. Vern Ulrich.

Justin James Lovett, 32, was nabbed by RPD while he was walking down the street, Ulrich said. Officers in Reno staked out several possible locations, but Lovett was arrested on the street.

He was booked into the Washoe County Jail on misdemeanor charges of use or possession of drug paraphernalia and false statement to obstruct public officer. According to Ulrich, Lovett denied his identity and made false statements to RPD officers.

Lovett was on the run after the shooting and the Justice Court issued three warrants for his arrest. They include assault with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon and trafficking in a schedule I controlled substance more than 28 grams (methamphetamine).

Lovett also faces additional felony charges of battery with deadly weapon causing substantial bodily injury, domestic battery third offense and ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

The trafficking charge, though, stems from an unrelated case, which was initiated by FPD and investigated by the North Central Narcotics Task Force, Ulrich said.

According to Ulrich, Lovett’s bond will be at least $60,000 cash-only for the two deadly weapons causing harm charges. The bond amount, though, for the other charges will be determined once Lovett is booked into the Churchill County Jail.

On Sept. 13 at about 1:50 p.m., FPD received a call indicating that a shooting had occurred at the Overland Hotel. Officers arrived to find Holly Wilcox, 30, of Fallon, had a gunshot wound to her arm. Wilcox was transported to Banner Churchill Community Hospital for treatment and released.

Lovett will be arraigned in Justice Court later this week.

Lovett, though, has appeared in Churchill County courts numerous times, according to records.

In May 2011, Lovett received a five-year probation sentence after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested for possession of mushrooms.

Lovett was arrested in June 2009 on a warrant for contempt of court.

In August 2007, Lovett was found guilty of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 12-48 months in prison.

Police arrested Lovett on March 11, 2007, on a suspicion of domestic battery, assault with a deadly weapon, interruption of a 911 call, possession of a short-barrel shotgun, ex-felon not to possess firearm and battery.

In February 2005, Lovett was guilty of contempt for failure to pay fines in municipal court.

On Jan. 19, 2005, he was arrested on two warrants charging failure to pay fines and failure to appear.

In court news —

Tracey Lee De Grise pleaded guilty Tuesday in District Court to one count of driving under the influence, third or subsequent offense.

She was arrested Sept. 15 and faces one to six years in prison and a $2,000-$5,000 fine.

Blood results, though, have not been established and if the analysis comes back under the legal limit, De Grise will withdraw her plea. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12.

Harry Martin Dahling Jr. did not appear for his sentencing hearing Tuesday. He also missed his Aug. 22 sentencing date.

A bench warrant was issued.
