Silver Saddle Ranch will offer a ranch breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, with a bird trip preceding at 7:30 a.m.

Admission is free for members of Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch and $5 for nonmembers, and children 10 and younger get in free. The bird-viewing trip is free.

Male singer sought for Christmas production

Carson City’s music ensemble Consort Canzona seeks a male Baroque tenor with good sight-reading skills for “A 17th Century Christmas.” Performances are scheduled for December.

The production includes 13 singers and seven instrumentalists including soprano, alto and tenor recorders, cello and harpsichord.

Harvest Festival is set for Oct. 5 in Gardnerville

Heritage Park Gardens in Gardnerville will host the second annual Harvest Festival from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 5.

Pumpkins will be given away every half-hour, and sign-ups for garden plots in 2014 will be taken. The Carson Valley Food Closet will recognize Matthew and Zachary Kruse from Boy Scout Troop 33 at 12:30 p.m. for the vegetables they raised and donated. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Labyrinth, a spiral patterned path, will be at 2 p.m. Corn stalk bundles, iris starts and yard art will be available, along with herbs and seeds collected from the gardens. Pumpkin and rock painting will be available for children.

Fundraiser is set to benefit St. Mary’s Art and Retreat Center

“Turn Up the Heat — Saving the Boiler at the Arts Center,” a fundraiser to benefit St. Mary’s Art and Retreat Center, will offer wine tasting and an art auction from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 S. Main St. in Virginia City.

Tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Ticket sales will be used to repair the center’s failing heating system.

The event is sponsored by the Gold Hill Hotel, St. Mary’s Art and Retreat Center and the Comstock Foundation.

‘Blithe Spirit’ set to open in Minden

A novelist invites a medium to conduct a seance in hopes of inspiration for a book in “Blithe Spirit,” a production by Carson Valley Community Theatre set to play at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11-13 and Oct. 18-19 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

Noël Coward’s play will be directed by Margaret Edson, and Justin Clouser, Ann Swallow, Anita Jones, Sonya Maness-Turner, Jim DeZerga, Carol Schirlls and Chanden Robasciotti will perform.

Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $13 for seniors and students. Tickets cost $11 each for groups that purchase 10 or more tickets at the box office. ‘House of Horror’ performances are set

Proscenium Players and Silver State Charter High School’s Silver State Stars will present “Murder in the House of Horrors,” a murder mystery show, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11-12 and Oct. 18-19 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 13 and Oct. 20 at the school, 900 Mallory Way.

The audience is invited to solve the murder of an Egyptologist who has found a precious jewel from an Egyptian tomb. Tickets cost $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Admission for seniors, students and Proscenium Players and Brewery Arts Center members is $15 in advance and $17 at the door.
