CHS girls cruise to win

Carson High’s girls soccer team continued its run toward the first of two showdowns against rival Douglas by blanking Wooster, 3-0, Tuesday night in a Sierra League match.

The Senators, who have given up just one score all year, improved to 6-0. Carson returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. at North Valleys.

“We were moving the ball around well,” Carson coach Greg Lehman said after the match. “We had a lot of opportunities, we just didn’t put in as many as we wanted.

“I thought Melissa (Glanzmann) and Lorena (Gomez) played strong games, and Kiahna (Pimental) and Josie (Daggs) worked well together up top.”

Lehman played his subs liberally in the second half. He feels he has a group of starters, but said that it’s nice to get everybody playing time.

Josilyn Daggs scored the game’s first goal in the third minute, and in the 20th minute, she found the back of the net again when the Wooster goalie was unable to control a shot by Chantel Torres. Daggs was there to bang it in to make it 2-0.

Carson made it 3-0 in the 30th minute when a Wooster defender accidentally headed a ball past her own goalie for an own goal.

The Senators controlled the entire second half, as Daggs, Samantha Gutierrez and Lindsay Hettrick all had good looks at the goal.

JV: The Senators rolled to an easy 5-0 win thanks to goals by Miriam Gutierrez, Sophia Ruedy, Lauren Hudak and Selin Lizarraaga. The other goal was an own goal.

Kim Reyes recorded the shutout in goal.

TENNIS

CHS boys lose to Vikings

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE —Sam Burketta and Kyle Kunz went 3-0 in Carson’s 11-7 loss to the host Vikings on Tuesday.

Burketta and Kunz won 7-5, 6-0 and 6-3. Jace Zampirro and Trevor Sollberger went 2-1, going. Aaron Woodbury went 2-1 in singles, winning 7-6 and 7-5.

Carson girls lose 12-6

Lizzie Flansberg and Preeta Amin were undefeated in the loss to South Tahoe. The duo won 6-3, 6-0 and 6-4.

Top singles player Katy Breeding recorded a 2-1 record, winning 6-1 and 6-2. The other Carson point came from Amanda Breen and Anya Woodbury, who grabbed a win in the opening round of doubles.

VOLLEYBALL

Reno sweeps Tigers

MINDEN — The Tigers fell in straight sets to Reno on Tuesday night, 18-25, 16-25 and 16-25.

Ariah Barth had nine kills and five digs for the Tigers, while Katie McCullough added six kills and three blocks. Setter Shelby Van Winkle finished with 19 assists, two kills and two digs. Madeline Strauss contributed a team-leading six digs, while Bailey Gansberg added five. Sage Pintler collected four kills, two aces and three digs.

Morgan McGwire led Reno with 11 kills and 10 digs.

The Tigers are 0-4 in league and 14-7 overall.
