The Nevada Appeal and The Record-Courier will host the fourth Literacy for Life Golf Tournament on Oct. 16 at Thunder Canyon Country Club.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to Carson City Literacy Volunteers, a Northern Nevada literacy advocacy group.

The group, headed by Jan Whitemore, currently serves 55 people ages 5-73. About 40 volunteers supply one-on-one work teaching adults and children to read.

For more information about the program, call Whitemore at 775-885-1010.

The cost is $80 per person until Sept. 30. The fee increases with late registration until the tournament is full.

The scramble-format tournament will take place at 9:30 a.m. The fee includes lunch, and raffle tickets will be sold.

To register or if your business is interested in being a sponsor, contact Erica Hall at 775-283-5549 or ehall@sierranevadamedia.com.
