RENO — Authorities say a teenager who was upset about school has been taken into custody after apparently starting a small fire in his Reno home.

Police say the boy is suspected of first-degree arson and a weapons charge after the incident Tuesday afternoon on Bonneville Avenue.

Reno Police Department Lt. Mohammad Rafaqat says the boy was apparently upset about school issues when he reportedly spread gasoline in the home and lit a fire that affected a rug and a couch cushion.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports firefighters arrived to find the teen with a gun, and waited for police to secure the area.

KRNV-TV reports the weapon was recovered by officers.
