Twine round-up contest ends Saturday

Jupiter Hay announces the conclusion of their Twine Round-Up contest, which ends Saturday.

Beginning in April, local non-profit horse and livestock organizations have been competing for a $500 prize by gathering used baling twine. The twine has been gathered by the clubs, will be weighed by Jupiter Hay and donated to the Churchill County High School FFA to be recycled with a contracted recycling company. The FFA uses monies earned for their school programs, state conventions, and other cost associated with the FFA program.

Currently participating are the Fallon Horsemen’s Association of Fallon, the High Sierra Riders 4-H Club in Washoe Valley, the High Desert Horsemen of Dayton and the Back Country Horsemen of Nevada in Spanish Springs. These clubs have been collecting twine all summer and everyone involved is looking forward to helping the kids in our area and removing all the unwanted twine from the landfill. The final weigh-in will be on Saturday when Jupiter Hay will travel to a different location for each club, weigh the twine and the winner of the $500 prize will be announced Monday.

The Twine Round-up serves several purposes; it brings awareness to twine recycling, gives twine users an opportunity to recycle rather than improper disposal like burn or trash their used twine, provides one lucky club additional funding ($500 prize), supports a local Future Farmers of America chapter and allows Jupiter Hay to give back to the communities it serve.
