The youth football season is in full swing for the Lahontan Valley as the Sierra Youth Football and Pop Warner leagues complete their first month.

In the SYFL, where Fallon has been one of the more dominating programs in the region, the Greenwave went 4-3 against Reed last weekend, picking up wins in the Mavericks, Renegades, Freshman and Junior Varsity teams picking up wins.

Fallon blanked Reed in the Mavericks, Renegades and Freshman age groups, 25-0, 18-0 and 26-0. Fallon won its fourth game of the afternoon when the Greenwave came out on top in an 8-6 nail biter over the Raiders.

On the other side of the box score, Reed blanked Fallon, 27-0, in the Bandits division and 33-0 in the Varsity group. The Collegiate division saw a shootout between the two programs with the Raiders winning 46-30.

Three of the four teams that won on Saturday still remain undefeated with the Mavericks, Renegades and Freshman teams each at 3-0. The JV team’s win on Saturday marked the first of the season as it is 1-1 as is the Varsity club.

The Bandits are 1-2 through three weeks while the Collegiate group is winless in two tries.

Fallon will host Hug on Saturday at the high school. The Hawks have lost only one game throughout their entire program although they don’t field a JV team. Games begin at 8 a.m. with the Bandits.

The Pop Warner teams near the halfway point of the regular season in the Sagebrush Empire league, which encompasses Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe.

Fallon completed its second week of the season last weekend, competing against Douglas (Unlimited), South Tahoe (Mitey Mite), Carson (PeeWee), and Truckee (Tiny Mites).

Fallon defeated South Tahoe but lost to Carson, 28-0, and Douglas, 28-6. Truckee results were unavailable.

Fallon will host the Sparks Wolf Pack (Tiny Mite) and Cardinals (Mitey Mite) on Saturday at the regional park, beginning at 11 a.m.

Fallon’s PeeWee team will travel to Douglas tonight for a 6 p.m. contest while the Unlimited team has a bye this week.
