Chicken shooting match. At the Yellow Jacket House in Empire, Miss Lizzie Hauser says there will be a old-fashioned chicken shooting match. Shots are two bits each. The usual facilities incident to such an occasion and the customary refreshments will be within the scope of the projected meeting.

About two weeks ago James Mateer, formerly Captain of the Guard at the State Prison, left Tuscarora with a party of Indians in search of Martin the murderer. Since then, nothing has been heard from him or his followers. Those who know Mateer believe that Martin will fall into his hands dead or alive.

Kind words from the Carson City news as to the change of managers and editors the first of November. The Appeal did not state who the new parties were, but Messrs. VanDevort and Coogan of Tonopah are to assume management of the paper. They will undoubtedly be a strong adjunct to the Democratic press and are both partisans.

Funeral services were held today for Mrs. Blanche Atherton Nagel, a native of Carson City who died suddenly in Los Angeles. Pallbearers included William Orton, Charles Box, Dean Smith, Joe Farnsworth, George Foley and Lloyd Horton. Internment was at the Lone Mountain Cemetery.
