Karen Abowd deserves praise for her vision
This letter is about the Greenhouse Project. I gave the seed money for the Greenhouse Project because of my belief that community action can provide solutions to address issues of hunger, education and self sufficiency. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. A diverse group of people have joined together to work towards our shared goals of teaching our children cooperative work, patience and entrepreneurship. The results of those efforts have been to provide food to families, job training, and community health.
None of this would have been accomplished without the vision and inspiration provided by Karen Abowd. My husband and I chose to return to, and invest millions of dollars in, Carson City because people like Karen Abowd live here and care about growth and job training and community responsiveness.
There is a strata of negativity in this community, fueled by people who always try to impede all of the positive things that are going on. They never seem to open their hearts or their minds, or their wallets, for anything. They tear down, but never build up. Who do you stand with? What kind of community do you want to live in? Should we sit at our computers spewing bile or should we work together to teach, learn, and help one another?
Come and visit the Greenhouse Project. You will be proud that this is your home town. You will see that actions speak louder than words.

We the people can vote supervisors out
The Board of Supervisors are 100 percent right when they say that we (the voters) voted them in to make critical decisions for our city. So we (as voters) can vote them out. It is really that simple.
On that note, two Board of Supervisors are coming up for election. Since Jim Shirk was the only supervisor that voted no on the 1/8 tax, you as voters know what you have to do with these supervisors coming up for re-election.
